We took the Kennicott shuttle today, and let someone else do the driving! We tour the Kennicott copper mill tomorrow. Here are some photos of our ride.

Our drive across the Top of the World Highway was an adventure! It’s known as a scenic highway, but we’ll have to take their word on that. The day was very rainy with low clouds and extremely limited visibility - at times no more than 2 or 3 car lengths. We took the ferry across the Yukon and started the drive on a mostly unpaved road. The first 20 or so miles was on slick mud. Maybe it’s a blessing that we couldn’t really see the steep drop off just outside my window. Well, alls well that ends well! Hours later, we went through US customs and arrived in Chicken, Alaska for a selfie with a couple of chickens.

On Sunday, we drove from Whitehorse to Little Salmon Lake. The day was sunny and our drive along the Klondike Highway pleasant in spite of the narrow road. We hoped to find ice on Little Salmon Lake, and we did. The last of the ice vanished in the sun and wind as we watched from our lakeside campsite. If you turn the sound up on the video, you can hear the ice as it moves in the wind.
We found out that the Top of the World Highway opened early so today we drove to Dawson City. We’ll take the ferry across the Yukon tomorrow and enter the US at the most northern border crossing. We drove in rain almost all of the day after a clear morning with low clouds. The clouds closed in, and the rain began.

Yesterday, we had a very long drive with a mixture of rain and sun. As usual, the clouds made for interesting scenery. We camped last night beside a nice aqua colored lake.
Tonight we are just outside Whitehorse in the Yukon Territory. The beginning of our drive took us through a large area with a recent burn. The sun shone all day, and we saw more wildlife. I think our bear count is up to 10. Perhaps more unusual are the 2 foxes we have seen as they are usually more reclusive. We head farther north tomorrow.

We continued along the Yellowhead Highway today. We saw some deer and a red fox along the way. As always, the scenery was lovely. There a fields of yellow flowers (dandelions?) making a beautiful with the green and the mountains in the distance.
As always, there are so many log trucks!
Tonight we are in the K’san campground, adjacent to the historic village. We enjoyed walking among the totem poles.
