As in the past, let me show you some of last night's beautiful food -
This is a chili pepper soup with charred octopus and some cream cheese with chopped walnuts.

Sole with squid ink quinoa, roasted carrot and lemon sauce.

This dessert was called "The Rose of the Year" and a rose flavor was used in all of these preparations along with flavoring from a local berry.

And now for today:
Today was very windy so instead of taking a hike, we went on a long scenic drive.
Behind the trees is an active volcano. If you look carefully, you can see some steam rising just above the left side of the tallest tree.

Here is a small herd of vicuna. This is another llama cousin. The vicuna look very much like the guanaco but require more moisture so live where there is more water and more abundant grass.

We visited two salt lagoons. This one is fed by hot springs and is Salar de Agua Calientes.

The colors are lovely. Some Andean flamingos wade in the shallows.

The second lagoon was Salar Tara. It is also a salt lagoon but isn't hot.

On the drive we spotted these 2 Chilean rabbits in the rocks. You can't tell it from this picture, but they are quite large.

This fox completed our wildlife viewing for today.
