Today we spent a lovely day in Cuzco with sunshine and mild temperatures. This is the front of our hotel, the Palacio del Inka. It is probably the nicest hotel in Cuzco. The restaurant is good as well.

This morning, we walked around the city and did a little shopping before having lunch. Charlotte and I had delicious quinoa soup with a fried egg floated on top.

After lunch, we had a walking tour of Cuzco. We saw the Basilica Cathedral
and the surrounding square.

The Cathedral doesn't allow pictures inside. Suffice it to say that CKS would think there is too much gold leaf!

Adjacent to the square is the Dominican Monastery.

There are many alleys which were originally laid down by the Inka. The neat stone work on the right is Inkan; that on the left (not as neat) is Spanish.

Our last stop was at the Convento de Santo Domingo del Cuzco.

As in many places, the Spanish built on top of Inkan stone work. This picture is of a part of the building that was an Inkan temple. Notice the view from the opening in this room to the next room and the next. Inka stone work uses no mortar and has a way of fitting the stones together to minimize any damage Machu Pichu starting tomorrow.
