Yesterday we drove from Mount Gambier to Adelaide. We stop by Blue Lake on the way out of Mount Gambier. This lake in a volcanic cone is the water source for the city. Its color varies depending on the time of year. We were happy to find it in its blue phase.

Our drive took us through an agricultural area. It is a dairy region as well as an important wine grape region. The timber industry is very prevalent as well. The highway is good and lined with beautiful old eucalyptus trees.

Our hotel in Adelaide is beside the River Torrens. We walked along the river to the Botanic Garden. The gardens date from the 1850s. We visited the Palm House with both palms and succulents.

The park is hosting a fine exhibit of the glass work of Dale Chihuly.

Not to be outdone, several colorful parrots enjoyed a fountain!

We visited the Migration Museum to learn more about the diverse population of Australia. On the way to the museum, we saw posters for protests against a couple of  DC newsmakers.

  1. I'm a big Chihuly fan, especially when they have them at botanic gardens/nature settings!
