The end of day 2 finds us in Casselton, North Dakota, another 500 miles closer to Anchorage. Here I am behind the wheel driving-

The weather was beautiful again today. While it is already warm in Houston, we start the days here with light jackets. The trees in Wisconsin and Minnesota are just budding, the maples with their reddish winged seeds, the birches with glistening whitish leaf buds. There are wild fruit trees blooming white and pink. Most of the fields are just being prepared for planting.

Minnesota is known as the land of 10,000 lakes. Indeed, there are lakes everywhere, and almost every highway exit has "Lake" or "Falls" or "River" in its name.

As you see, we've just begun the trek across North Dakota - lots more ND tomorrow.
