Day 6 – Tuesday, May 17, 2022
After rain during the night, we awoke to a clear day. Today
we drove northwest to Saskatoon. Again we enjoyed to prairie sights. We were
surprised to find more greening as we drove along. The pastures have growing
grass and the trees are leafing out.
We are spending the night in the Gordon Howe Campground near
the heart of Saskatoon. The Gordon Howe complex which includes playing fields,
a golf course and the campground are named for favorite son and long-time
hockey star Gordie Howe. Howe once played for the now defunct Houston Aeros
along with a couple of his sons. He was one of the best ever and played
professionally into his fifties.
We arrived here in time for lunch (while we waited for the
early afternoon shower to abate). This afternoon we took a stroll along the
South Saskatchewan River on the Meewasin Trail. The grass is green, and the
flowers are blooming. The weather forecast calls for temperatures in the 30s in
the next few days, but today was comfortable with a light jacket.
