Day 9 – Friday, May 20, 2022
Clear skies! On this cold, windy day, we took several short hikes in Elk Island National Park. A couple of bison were grazing along the road as we drove in.
The park has a lot of smaller lakes and several larger ones. The hikes took us along lake edges and through birch and aspen forests.
Each lake has at least one beaver lodge. The lodges all look like they’ve been in existence for a long time. Evidence of old and new beaver activity is plentiful. We were surprised to see eight-inch diameter trees felled or in the process of being felled by the beaver.
Each lake also has waterfowl. We heard a cacophony of waterfowl as we walked along. The Canadian Geese are everywhere in and around the lakes. There are several kinds of ducks and also some loons.
Tonight, we are in an RV park just west of Edmonton, Alberta. We have spent
hours on the phone with Consumer Cellular trying to figure out why we can’t call
Canadian numbers even though we can make and receive calls from the US. It
remains a mystery! Tomorrow we head west, northwest to Grand Prairie.
