Day 2 from Sutton Bank to Osmotherly was rainy and windy. Early in the hike, we passed the largest natural lake in Yorkshire -

Gormire Lake was formed when the glaciers retreated. Some think the lake is bottomless; there are other stories about the magic surrounding the lake which has no obvious outlet. Note the low clouds.

The rain came and went, but the clouds never lifted -

We found a wonderful old tree that sheltered us for a pack break -

Just after lunch, we began our trek across the moors. The wide expanse gave the wind plenty of space to gather strength -

The heather needs just a day or so of sun to burst into bloom.

Finally, we left the moors on our way  into Osmotherly -

This is Oakdale Beck.

Our home for tonight is Braemer -

There are gale warnings for tomorrow as more of Tropical Storm Helene works its way across Yorkshire. We can't imagine walking in wind much stronger than today's so we may get to Clay Bank another way.
