It's a driving day for us. We left Kate and Norman 5 at the Denver Airport early this morning. After breakfast, we started driving toward Houston. We stopped for lunch where the Santa Fe Trail crossed what is now US 287.

Tonight we are in Vernon, Texas at a motel that is hosting part of a Texas Highway Patrol training; we feel very safe with at least 10 DPS cars in the parking lot. Our motel, the Hampton Inn, has a garden with flowers, vegetables and watermelon -
