Day one began at the sign posts for the Cleveland Way in Helmsley -

Soon we had a view of the Helmsley Castle ruins -

A little way along, we crossed the River Rye -

We passed man-made lakes with a swan (and hundreds of ducks) -

All along the way, there were wonderful stone walls, They must be hundreds of years old -

I think of Robert Frost - "Something there is that doesn't love a wall." And "Good fences make good neighbors."

We pass the Hambleton Training Track after we leave Cold Kirby and its wonderful old farm houses. -

Soon we arrive at Sutton Bank and its beautiful vista -

We walk along the Yorkshire Gliding Club and even get to see some gliders towed up to fly -

The gliders take off right over The White Horse though we are too close to really appreciate it -

At long last, we come to Church Farm our accommodation for the night -

More tomorrow -
