Home again! We left Vernon this morning at 7:45, a leisurely morning for us. We decided on a scenic route to miss the traffic of Fort Worth and Dallas. After a morning downpour in Wichita Falls, we drove most of the day with only intermittent showers. We went through towns neither of us had every visited. One of those towns was Mexia (of course, we had heard of it, just never visited).

That brings to mind the fun but corny joke:

Two friends were driving south of the Dallas-Fort Worth area when they decided it was time for lunch. One asked, "Where shall we eat?" The other replied, "How about Mexia?" He pronounced it Meck-see-ah. The first guy said, "Okay, sure, but it's pronounced Meh-hay-ah." As they drove into the town, they continued to banter about the correct pronunciation. After they ordered lunch, the first guy told the girl at the counter that his friend didn't know how to say the name of the place correctly. He said, "Miss, would you tell my friend how you say the name of this place?" The woman looked directly at the second man and very slowly and deliberately said, " Dairy Queen."

Okay, you've probably heard that before, but I couldn't resist. And Dairy Queens are disappearing from small towns; we didn't see one in Mexia. But we stopped later for a Blizzard and took this photo.

Dusk this evening -

I'll be back next week when we leave for the next trip!
